Cabana Digital

Hoy me desperté como si fuera un día cualquiera. Luego de tomarme mi primer cafecito negro recordé que hoy hace un año que llegamos a Canadá. Hoy, que es justamente el día de Canadá.

Camino al trabajo pensé mucho en tantas cosas que José y yo hemos experimentado durante este primer año; iba agradecida y contenta con lo que ha sido para nosotros este nuevo país. Ya cerca de la oficina me topé con una orquídea solita tirada en el suelo. Esto me conmovió muchísimo, como tal vez conmovería a cualquier otro venezolano que ha inmigrado, dado que la orquídea es la flor nacional en Venezuela.

Supongo que iba tan ocupada pensando en este tiempo aquí, que olvidé que hace también un año que salí de mi país natal. Esto me conmovió todavía más y me fui con el corazón hinchado a trabajar.

¿Cómo no estar feliz? Si tengo espacio para dos países en mi pecho :)

Early in the morning, I recall that today is my first anniversary in Canada. I was touched all the way to work, with a sweet feeling of gratefulness for all what José and I have achieved during this time in this amazing place.

Suddenly, I found an orchid that somebody left on the ground. The feeling was even stronger as this is Venezuela’s national flower. I thought that I was so busy thinking about this place that I forgot that it’s been also a year since I left my dear Venezuela and this flower was like a gift that reminded me so. My heart was too big to fit in my chest.

How could I be sad? If I have room enough for keeping two countries in my core :)

Esta semana ha sido bastante complicada. Afortunadamente, siempre hay tiempo para dibujar un poco ;)

This one have been a very complicated week. Luckily, there is plenty of time for drawing ;)

Conforme pasan los días se me hace más fácil sacar el moleskin y los lápices del bolso y olvidarme de casi todo mientras me concentro en algún modelo desprevenido. Gradualmente también me estoy inclinando por uno o dos dibujos por semana pero más detallados que los anteriores; disfruto más de esta manera no sólo porque veo/siento los progresos, sino porque además molesto a menos gente que no quiere ser modelo de semejante loca, jeje…

De estas tres chicas, una me acompañó en el autobús ayer y las otras dos ‘posaron’ para mí durante el almuerzo en el parque hace unos días. ¡Se tan siente bien el invertir en algo que te gusta ese tiempo muerto que se nos va en el día a día!

De regreso a casa comencé otro que ya montaré por aquí :)

As time goes by, it’s turning easier to take my moleskin out of my purse. I also realized that it’s nicer when I do just a couple of drawings per week, more detailed than the previous ones, though. Not only I can see the progress, but also, it’s less intrusive, Isn’t it?

The girl to the left traveled in the same bus I was yesterday. The couple to the right had lunch near from me a few days ago in the park. It feels so good the fact of taking advantage of that death time from every single day!

Back to home, I started another sketch that will be soon posted too :)

No es fácil hacer un escorzo, es decir, un dibujo como éste con una suerte de perspectiva cuyo punto de atención está muy cercano a nosotros. Sin embargo, mi jefa tuvo la gentileza de posar para mí durante la hora del almuerzo y mientras ella dormía una siesta en el parque* ¿adivinen en qué me entretuve? ;)

La chica de la derecha iba delante de mí en el autobús del lunes en la mañana. Lo que ella no se imagina es que he pasado el resto de mis viajes terminándola de memoria. ¡Cómo me estoy divirtiendo con esto!

* Acontecimiento que sólo ocurre una vez cada año luz.

It’s not easy to draw a foreshortening, a drawing like this one in which the center of your attention is very close to you. However, my boss was so nice that she was my model during lunch time. Isn’t she pretty? ;)

The other girl was in front of me this past Monday morning in the bus. What she can’t imagine is that I’ve been drawing her all this week while commuting. I’m so enjoying this!

Esta semana me provocó hacer todos los dibujos viajeros en el mismo par de páginas del moleskine; fue como capturar diferentes momentos en un único vistazo ¿no? Esta chica super-concentrada estaba sobre el césped en el parque :)

This week I made all my traveller-sketches over the very same pair of sheets of my moleskine; it was like catching different moments in one single shot, right? This super-concentrated girl was on the grass, in the park :)

Llegó el último día del reto y debo decir que ciertamente el hábito se formó. Estoy disfrutando como nunca el dibujar por todas partes, feliz, con o sin música, sola o acompañada, estática o en movimiento… aunque por ahora mis esbozos no tengan color, digamos que me estoy reconciliando con el lápiz.

Seguiré dibujando a diario aunque sea mentalmente, como dice Paola; ahora el mundo se traza ante mis ojos aunque mi moleskine esté cerrado.

¡Mil gracias a Gina, Jannie, Alicia, Zime, Paola, May y a todos los que me acompañaron en esta rica aventura!

As the last day of the challenge arrived the habit was set. I’m so enjoying this! I love drawing everywhere: accompanied or alone, with or without music, quiet or moving… even though my sketches are uncolored, I’m having fun just with my pencils!

I’ll keep drawing everyday, at least mentally as Paola said. Now, the world is traced in front of my eyes no matter if my moleskine is closed.
